Our centuries old heritage has been dying a slow death brought on by negligence and a fascination for the 'modern'. Shri Veerendra Heggade however, has taken upon himself the task of preserving and restoring our heritage so that posterity may not blame this generation for pushing Indian culture into oblivion. The Dharmasthala Manjunatheswara Dharmothana Trust has been established with explicit purpose of restoring temples that were once the center of community activity. The Advisory Board of the Trust comprising of eminent personalities and experts in various fields, identifies the ravaged temple. Then the task of restoration is delegated to engineers, retired archaeological professionals, historians, architects and sculptors to breathe new life into the temple ruins. Reconstruction follows the lines of the original structure and every effort is made to ensure that period detail and architectural style are faithfully retained. Artisans trained in stone cutting and engraving are employed to recreate pieces that match the missing ones.

Though the projects are mainly funded by the Trust, active involment of the local community and government agencies is sought so that the restored temple becomes a part of the life of those living around it. All donations made to the Trust by donors from around the country, are accounted to the local community fund,so as to ease their financial strain. Recognizing the laudable efforts of the Trust, 40 percent of the total renovation cost is shared by the Government of Karnataka. Sri Dharmasthala Trust shares 40 percent and the remaining 20 percent is collected by the local citizens. Since inception, the Dharmosthana Trust has restored 110 valuable monuments and handed over them to the concerned temple committees.
