Healthcare

Shri Veerendra Heggade has identified the segments of development absolutely thoughtfully. After ensuring a quality education to the youth, the next step was to ensure a healthy living for the people of Dharmasthala. What started as a local venture of providing health care aid to the natives evolved into a nationwide procurement process. Now, SDM trust has built more than 20 major healthcare organizations that provide health care assistance of international standards.

The SDM mobile hospital is one of the most thought-over solution provided to the physically needy. Shri Heggade realized that if the villagers in these inaccessible areas could not reach hospitals, which incidentally were far and few, then he had to literally bring the Hospital to their doorstep.

The Mobile Hospital is staffed by experienced doctors and qualified support staff. It is equipped with a laboratory and a fully stocked pharmacy. It visits all the villages, however inaccessible the location, to provide immediate relief. The dates of the visit and the services provided by the Mobile Hospital are widely publicized through the Panchayat Leaders, Social Workers and NGOs. Recently LIC of India donated the chassis on which an ultra modern version of the Mobile Hospital was built. This replaces the old one who served for over three decades.

A new 100 bed modern General Hospital is at  Ujire. It will be fully equipped state-of-art facilities including diagnostic laboratories, Operation Theaters and Intensive Care unit. This will provide free medical facilities to the villagers around the area, who cannot afford quality medical attention otherwise.

In 1991, the Trust laid the foundation for the Eye Hospital at Mangalore. It is equipped with some of the most sought after equipment which include the Fundus Fluorescent Angiography Equipment, Ultra Sound Scan, Automated Computerized Perimitry, Surgical Microscope, Yag Laser, and Photo Disruptor among others. A state-of-art Operation Theater helps highly trained Ophthalmologists to conduct even the most complicated eye operations with ease. While the Hospital is open to all the patients, it ensures that expensive eye treatments are subsidized for those who cannot afford it.

This is perhaps one of the most modern and the largest dental hospitals in the country. It treats almost around 2 lakh patients a year. Apart from regular oral treatments, this hospital specializes in some of the most difficult oral operations in the country. Apart from India’s leading dentists, world renowned surgeons specializing in different branches of oral health are invited to perform some of the most complicated surgeries.

The two full-fledged Operation Theaters are a brilliant example of blending Nature’s soothing aura with the serious business of surgery. Huge sealed bay windows in the OT offer a breathtaking view of the garden outside. Manning these OTs is a highly professional team of support staff. The Hospital also has in its campus, a highly sophisticated Craniofacial Surgery and Research Center surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens. It is spread over 50,000 sq. ft. This Center has a 6 bed Intensive Care Unit, 50 bed general and special wards, full- fledged diagnostic wing with the latest equipment and a caring outpatient department. This Research Center is held in high esteem the world over for its Research Activities. The scope of surgeries include Facial Trauma, Oral Cancer, Diseases of the Jaw Joint, Birth Defects such as Cleft Lip and Palate, Corrective Jaw Surgery and more.

Midway between the twin cities of Dharwad and Hubli, a beautiful edifice literally rises out of beautifully landscaped gardens. This is the SDM Multi Specialty Hospital, one of the best in the country. This 650 bed hospital offers comprehensive, primary and specialty health care. It provides people in and around Dharwad and Hubli, some of the best medical treatment any hospital can provide. That to with a human touch that is rarely found in most hospitals the world over.

A handpicked team of highly qualified, well known, dedicated doctors and surgeons are complemented by an equally qualified and trained support staff. The Hospital is equipped with the most modern facilities for investigation and management of all types of medical problems. There are 11 Operation theaters, a full fledged blood bank, besides facilities like Computerized Tomography, MRI, Ultrasonography, Dialysis Unit, and Pharmacy.

Adjacent to this Hospital is Super Specialty Center which offers Services like Plastic Surgery, Neuro Surgery, Cardiology, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Neurology, Urology, and others. It has 400 beds, 100 Intensive Care Units and 8 Operation Theatres. Each floor has Ancillary Services related to the Specialty of that Floor to provide hassle free service to the patients. Pneumatic Tube System ensures faster transportation of materials in the Hospital and the OPD will function in a paperless and filmless environment to help foster eco-friendly practices.

While setting up medical facilities is the prime objective of the Trust, it has rendered medical and financial assistance to many institutions:

  • It contributed 50% of the cost for building the Dharmasthala Government Hospital. It also provides medicines every year.
  • The Shree Kshetra Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Block covering 44000 sq.ft at the Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology at Bangalore provides relief to poor cancer patients. This block has facilities like outpatient ward (separate facilities for men and women), consultation rooms for doctors, rooms for nurses, minor operation theatres, store room, toilets, ramp and waiting hall.
  • It has built an air-conditioned Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatha Swamy Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health at a cost of Rs.53 lakhs. This unit has been dedicated to provide specialized health care for high-risk newborn infants belonging to the poor sections of the society.
